In recent years, the Southern borders of Europe have become landmarks for the mediatic and academic verve regarding the migration and diasporas towards and beyond ‘Schengen Europe’. In these debates, religion is acknowledged as playing a central role in the recognition of major societal changes in the continent, being object of political concern and attention: from the recognition of plural forms of Christianity to the debates on a ‘European Islam’. Yet, in this respect, what goes on around the borders of Portugal, Spain, Italy or Greece is still largely uncharted and un-debated. With the contribution of renowned anthropologists, sociologists and religious studies scholars, this book critically presents and discusses case studies on the sites and politics of religious diversity in Southern Europe, including the impact of migrant religiosity in national and EU politics.

These seminars will be based on specific readings from the gender/Pentecostalism field which the group can critically analyze and debate. One person will chair each seminar, briefly providing an overview of the topic and summary of the readings, followed by discussion. All interested members of staff are welcome to attend.

The first 20 years of the European Society for Oceanists was held in Bergen over 4 intensive and exciting days. The GenPent project welcomed its new postdoctoral scholars, Ruy and Michelle, to Bergen for the first time and used the opportunity to discuss the future plans for the project. Annelin chaired a successful session entitled “The Gendered Power of the Church in Melanesia” and the project team participated in other sessions, with many prominent scholars present to share in ideas and make for a stimulating and productive week.
Special mention must go to the Bergen Pacific Studies research group who were instrumental in organizing such a rich event, described by all as “the most successful ESfO to date”.
